Embracing the alpine spirit: A legacy of winter sports

Celebrating over a century of the American Alpine Club's enduring commitment, with a dynamic twist.

This fall marks a momentous occasion as the American Alpine Club welcomes back an esteemed Alumnus, now an Elite member and a proud member of the 2013-14 National Champions club. Steeped in history, the American Alpine Club had its inaugural meeting in the fall of 1897, a gathering attended by 100 enthusiastic individuals who shared a passion for winter sports. The first class, comprising 10 members, initiated a legacy that endures to this day. In that very meeting, the club acquired a new headquarters — a three-story brick building at 3rd and Spring, nestled in the heart of the Colorado Springs winter sports community. The proclamation of membership in 1897 marked the formal beginning of a journey that has left an indelible mark on the winter sports world.
